When Captain James Cook was in the Navy, he studied astronomy, science and maths. But all James Cook wanted was to one day command his own ship on awesome voyages. So when he was asked to captain a ship going for King George's Island he was so excited. James Cook was handed a sealed letter from the King. The only bad thing was that he could only open this letter until his mission was complete. So Captain James Cook worked very hard for this day to come. Captain Cook was given a small, sturdy and strong ship to captain. This ship was the HMB Endeavour. On the trip they made their way down the coast of Africa and caught many fish. But the weather went wild and the waves went up. There was ice cold winds windy weather. Eight months later they finally reached King George's Island and finding some Aboriginal people. Now that he had reached his destination, it was time to open the letter for the King. The letter revealed a very important task. This task was to to ventre south and search of the new land. So that is what he did. Without a map they travelled south and could not find land. They ran low on everything, and grew tired and homesick which was not a good thing. But then Captain James Cook spotted seaweed he thought that land must be near. They finally found New Zealand but faced fierce Maoiri warriors. After the fight had settled, Captain and his crew started to navigate the country in six months. When he had finished his voyage, he returned back to hi home. Unfortunately he died on the 14th of February 1799, in Hawaii, United States. But to him, he had a great, adventurous, exciting and very fun life, full of lots of laughs and meeting lots of friends.
